The DC3P is intended to capture information about the vehicle’s driver’s habits and make the data available to aid you in improving driver safety. The DC3P should not interfere with any of the vehicle’s computer systems. If, after installation of the DC3P, there is a malfunction of the vehicle’s computer systems, contact Lytx, Inc.
DISCLAIMER: The Lytx DC3P event recorder is a driver aid only and is not a substitute for a safe, conscientious driver. The Lytx DC3P event recorder cannot compensate for a driver who is distracted, inattentive, or impaired by fatigue, drugs, or alcohol. Whether or not the Lytx DC3P event recorder is in use, it is always the responsibility of the driver to take appropriate corrective action.
4. Check for laws that prohibit objects from being mounted on a vehicle’s windshield or other locations in a vehicle. You are responsible for complying with such laws, and Lytx, Inc. does not accept responsibility for your failure to do so.
Windshield Mounting Options (Restrictions & Recommendations) The figures below provide Lytx’s recommendations for mounting the WU on the vehicle windshield that work within the guidelines set forth by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA). Lytx’s “Two-Inch Allowance” is within the federal guidelines for video event recorders.
Mounting Overhead with the Extended Bracket (Bulkhead) The DC3P Extended Mounting Bracket is most commonly used in large commercial vehicles where the windshield mount is not always an option. It is also used in vehicles operating in jurisdictions where windshield mounting is restricted. The bracket can be rotated, but is usually hung vertically as close to the windshield and center of the vehicle as possible.
Basic Event Recorder Electrical Connections WARNING — Only a properly qualified technician should install and maintain the DC3P. Any electrical work should be performed by an ASE CERTIFIED (MINIMUM T6 & L2) TECHNICIAN with an expertise in installing and troubleshooting advanced vehicle onboard components including multiplexed circuits.
In order to properly install the DC3P, you must first identify the correct wiring alternative to be used for the event recorder. Always consult the vehicle manufacturer’s service manual to choose the best electrical connection for the DC3P.
Errors: If the right light is not lit or if the left light is solid red or blinking red, an error has occurred and must be corrected. * * * See Appendix A for a complete description of ALL DC3P STATUS LIGHT BEHAVIORS * * * Brown Wire Connection (ignition-switched power) CAUTION: An improper connection could impact the program and functionality (i.e.-fleet tracking, hibernation, etc.).
Create Vehicle to VER association IMPORTANT STEP: Now that the VER is successfully installed and wiring connections have been confirmed, your next step is to finalize the association between the vehicle and the VER with Lytx Technical Support. 1. Contact Lytx Technical Support at (866) 910-0403 or support@lytx.com and state that you are confirming a vehicle to VER association.
DC3P Event Recorder Installation Complete The DC3P event recorder is installed and ready to use. Finalize all electrical connections. Use cable-ties to bundle and secure all wires so they don’t come loose. Replace any trim pieces on the door pillar and dash that were removed.
The DC3P event recorder communicates via cellular, much like a cell phone. Once powered, it will begin to search for a cellular signal and may begin to send or receive information. The status lights will indicate what is happening. See Appendix A for a complete description of all DC3P status light behaviors.
Connecting it to a continuous power source causes the infrared lights to function improperly and may add excessive drain to the battery when the vehicle is not running. Lytx, Inc. disclaims all responsibility for any damages arising from improper installation and maintenance of the DC3P.
APPENDIX A. UNDERSTANDING THE LED STATUS BEHAVIORS There are two LED status lights on the DC3P event recorder, one on either side of the interior- facing lens. The LEDs provide status and warning messages through a series of solid or blinking red and green lights.
