  • Page 8 HOW TO SET UP YOUR TRACTOR PREPARE BATTERY (See Fig. 3) CAUTION: Wear eye and face shield. Wash hands or clothing immediately accidentally in contact with battery acid. Do not smoke. Fumes from charged bat- tery acid are explosive. Read the instructions included with the battery vent caps.

    CHOKECOI CLUTCH/BRAKEPEDAL HEIGHT ADJUSTMENT KNOB GEARSHIFT LEVER Sears tractors conform to the safety standards of the American National Standards Institute_ ATTACHMENT CLUTCH SWITCH mower blades or other attachments mounted to your trac- tor.   • Page 12 Never use choke to stop engine_ OPERATION at Sears retail or catalog stores. NOTE: Under certain conditions when tractor is standing idle with the engine running, hot engine exhaust gasses may cause "browning" of grass. To eliminate this possibil- ity, always stop engine when stopping tractor on grass areas.

    TO ADJUST GAUGE WHEELS Adjust mower to desired cutting height. ° Lower mower with lift control,. Remove rear retainer spring and clevis pin which secure each gauge wheel.. • Lower gauge wheels to ground. Raise gauge wheels slightly to align holes in bracket and gauge wheel bar and insert clevis pins., Gauge wheels should be slightly off the ground °...
  • Page 14 ADD GASOLINE FIll fuel tank. Use fresh, clean, regular unleaded gasoline.. (Use of leaded gasoline will increase carbon and lead oxide deposits and reduce valve life).. IMPORTANT: WHEN OPERATING tN TEMPERATURES BELOW 32°F(0°C), USE FRESH, CLEAN WINTER GRADE GASOLINE TO HELP INSURE GOOD COLD WEATHER STARTING.

  • Page 16 CUSTOM TRACTOR Always observe safety rules when performing any mainte- nance_ BRAKE OPERATION If tractor requires more than six (6) feet stopping distance at high speed in highest gear, then brake must be adjusted.. (See "TO ADJUST BRAKE" in the Service and Adjust- ments section of this manual).

    SERVICE AND ADJUSTMENTS CAUTION: BEFORE PERFORMING ANY SERVICE OR ADJUSTMENTS: • Depress clutch/brake pedal fully and setparking Place gearshift lever in NEUTRAL" position. Place attachment clutch in "DISENGAGED" Turn ignition key "OFF" and remove key. Make sure the blades and all moving parts have completely stopped. Disconnect spark plug wire from spark plug and place wire where it cannot come in contact with plug.

IFTHE FOLLOWING" FRONT-TO-BACK NECESSARY, BE SURE TO ADJUST BOTH FRONT LINKS EQUALLY SO MOWER WILL STAY LEVEL SIDE-TO-SIDE.
