Troubleshooting JAT-920 Pneumatic Riveter
Any disassembly of the tool should be done by qualified service personnel. For problems not addressed
below, contact JET technical service at 800-274-6846.
Problem
Riveting force insufficient.
Riveter stops operating.
Insufficient pulling action.
Jaws slipping.
Short stroke.
Jaws will not open.
Slow piston return.
Fires immediately as soon
as air is connected.
Severe air leakage.
(Note: Minimal escape of
air is often normal for air
tools.)

Possible cause
Air valve obstructed.
Low air pressure.
Dirt or gum deposits on
components.
Internal components are worn.
Trigger or trigger lever is
malfunctioning.
No air pressure.
Trigger or trigger lever is
malfunctioning.
Air valve obstructed.
Low air pressure.
Dirt or gum deposits on
components.
Obstruction in jaw area.
Worn jaws or jaw spring.
Loose jaw case.
Incorrect size rivet.
Insufficient lubrication.
Dirty jaws or loose nosepiece.
Obstruction in cylinder.
Trigger or trigger lever is
malfunctioning.
Air valve obstructed or damaged.
O-rings damaged.
Housing loose or damaged.
Remedy
Clear any obstructions.
Verify compressor has proper CFM
rating for tool.
Check compressor regulator
setting; set air pressure to 90 psi.
Check for loose connections.
Flush tool with gum solvent.
If problem persists, disassemble,
clean and lubricate internal parts.
Replace worn components.
Inspect and repair trigger and/or
trigger lever.
Check air compressor and hoses.
Make sure compressor is set at
90psi, and air lines are not twisted.
Inspect and repair trigger and/or
trigger lever.
Clear any obstructions.
Verify compressor has proper CFM
rating for tool.
Check compressor regulator
setting; set air pressure to 90 psi.
Check for loose connections.
Flush tool with gum solvent.
If problem persists, disassemble,
clean and lubricate internal parts.
Clean jaw parts.
Replace parts as needed.
Tighten.
Use proper rivet for hole.
Lubricate according to instructions.
Clean or tighten as needed.
Disassemble and clean cylinder.
Inspect and repair trigger and/or
trigger lever.
Clean or replace.
Replace 0-rings
Tighten or replace as needed.
