Service documents published or revised subsequent to the issuance of this publication may mandate the replacement of components and parts not included in these instructions. At engine overhaul, the technician must review all service bulletins to ensure compliance with the manufacturer’s requirements for continued airworthiness.

Replace unserviceable hydraulic lifters with new lifters. Crankcases for All Models Crankcases candidates for overhaul must have the modifications specified in Service Bulletins M78-9, M90-16 and pass the inspection criteria detailed in in M90-17.

  • Page 199 PROTECTION FROM CORROSION: Coat all steel parts with corrosion preventive oil. At inspection, parts are wiped free of oil, to provide easy handling and true dimensional readings. Immediately after inspection, parts must be cleaned to eliminate fingerprints and contaminants, completely recoated with corrosion preventive oil and packaged properly to prevent damage. 72-30-02 VISUAL INSPECTION Perform a visual inspection on all parts not specified as 100% replacement at overhaul.
  • Page 200 5. Demagnetize the inspected parts and clean the inspected parts thoroughly according to the “Engine Cleaning” instructions in Section 72-20. CAUTION... When utilizing compressed air, wear OSHA approved protective eye wear. Never exceed 30 psi when using compressed gases for cleaning purposes (OSHA 1910.242(b)).Dry the parts with compressed air.

Connecting Rod Magnetic Particle Inspection Before performing the Connecting Rod Magnetic Particle Inspection, the connecting rod and cap must be clean and free of rust, scale, oil, or other residue that may affect the reliability of the Magnetic Particle Inspection. Inspect the connecting rods using both the circular and longitudinal method of magnetization.
