Moving The
. .. POinting
Finger
Use your JOYSTICK or other DESKTOP
CONTROLLER to move th e anima ted
POINTING FINGER so the tip of the finger is
touch ing the picture of the feature you want
to use . Press the ACT ION BUTTON on the
controller to activate the fea ture.

Clock
Set ting the DIGI TAL CLOCK is one of the
lirst things you should do. The c loc k is lo-
ca ted on top of the FILE CA BIN ET To se t the
clock , use your JOYSTICK / CO NTROL LER
to move the POINTING FINGER to the pic-
:ure of the clock. Press the ACTION BUT-
TON . A WHITE SQUA RE surrounds the
clock which tells you it's ready to be set. Use
th e numbered keys on the COMPUTER
KEYBOARD to enter th e time (example
en ter 1 2 00 for 12 a.m. or p.m.). Press th e
AC TI ON BUTTON.
If you don't se t the clock when you first turn
on MAG IC DESK, it automatica lly begins
keering time from 0000. If you se t the clock
using a 24-hour standard the c lock conve rt s
the Inpu t to th e 12-hour eq uiva lent (i.e .
19 30 become 730). Ove rflow se tti ngs be-
yond 24 00 are not accepted.

Using The

" Help Menus"
If you run into troub le or have any qu estions
while usi ng MAGIC DESK, just press the
COMMO DORE KEY at the lower left corner
of the keyboard and a "HELP MENU " will
appear Se lect the item you need informa-
ti on on, touch it wit h the PO IN TING FIN GER

and press the AC TION BUTTON . A brief
explanat ion in Eng lish will appear. To EX IT
from the explana tion bac k to the HELP
MENU , press the ACTION BUTTON ONCE .
To EXIT back to the original sc re en you were
last working wi th , press the ACT ION BUT-
TON TWICE .

Some errors , like trying to use

or usi ng a new disk which is

not " formatt ed ", res ults in a
flash ing "in tern ationa l wa rn -
ing" sym bol and a diagnostic menu to help
you determine what's wrong .

Be careful when using the WASTEBASKET
because thi s is used to ERASE a page
you've typed wh ich is sti ll in the TYPE -
WRITER , or a page you've retrieved from
the FILE CABINET Use CA UTION because
once you erase someth ing you ca n't get it
back . To ERASE a page, move the PO IN T-
ING FINGER to the WASTEBASKET and
press the ACTION BUTTON. The paper
hovers over the WASTEBASKET, giving you
a "second chance" if you want to chang e
your mind . PRESS THE AC TI ON BUTTON A
SECOND TIM E to erase it ... or .. if you de-
c ide NOT to erase it, simp ly move th e
JOYSTICK / CONTROLLER .

The MAGIC DESK TYPEWRI TER is fully
animated and works just like a real type-
writer. All entries are made using the com-
pu ter keyboard .
