Maintenance

Always disconnect mains electrical power from the tool before performing any maintenance
activities. • Do not have the tool running during inspection and maintenance. • The tool and
bits should be cool enough to touch before performing maintenance activities. • Some maintenance activities
described may be beyond the scope of some users. For procedures that you are not comfortable with or
have the tools or experience for, have the unit serviced by a service centre or qualified technician.
The maintenance schedule below specifies preventative maintenance checks and necessary maintenance
tasks and how often they should be performed.

Hammer Case Lubrication

The hammer case components (gears etc) are lubricated by either oil or grease.
Lubrication is essential to normal operation of the tool. For machines that use oil,
the machine is equipped with an oil sight glass (A). For machines that use
grease, there is no oil sight glass and no maintenance is necessary. For oil
lubricated machines, the oil level must be maintained at an acceptable level at all
times, and should be changed every 50 hours of use. Suitable oil types are SAE
75W to 90W gear oil. To check oil level:
1. Hold the tool so it is vertical – this is essential for getting a correct reading.
2. Check the oil level in the oil sight glass (A). If the oil level is at or near the top
of the sight glass (B), the level is acceptable. If the oil is not visible or the
level is at or near the bottom of the sight glass (C), add oil.
To add oil:
1. Lay the tool flat so the oil sight glass is facing up.
2. Clean the tool around the oil sight glass and plate to help prevent any dirt or other material entering the
hammer case.
3. Remove the oil sight glass (rotate left) using a suitable spanner. Alternatively, remove the 4 screws
securing the oil sight glass plate to the tool and remove the plate (with sight glass attached). Ensure that
any seals (O-rings etc) are retained.
4. Add oil to the tool.
5. Re-install the oil sight glass or plate and seals, then check oil level and adjust as necessary.
To change oil:
1. Remove the oil sight glass or plate as described above.
