PROBLEM: How do I tell if this thing is working correctly?
SOLUTION: Well, if it works with the receiver, it is a good indication of proper
operation. ;-). Another is the DATA LED or the laser should not turn on unless
U3 is operational. If either of these LEDs are lit, data is being encoded and
sent over the light beam. That doesn't mean the signal is making it all the way
through however!
PROBLEM: Everything seems to be working, but I hear nothing on the
receiver.
SOLUTION: Did you remember to install the jumper across the appropriate
pins on H1? A jumper should be between pins 2 & 3 if you want to use the
included microphone amplifier, or 1 & 2 if you want to insert line level audio
and bypass the microphone. No jumper? No audio! If you have the jumper in
place, trace the audio path from pin 1 of U1 to pin 14, then pin 8, and lastly pin
7. It should be easy to derive where the assembly error is then!
PROBLEM: Neither the laser nor the LED are lighting up.
SOLUTION: First check your battery for 7-11V. Then use a multi-meter to look
at the voltage across C11 with the power applied, it should also be
somewhere between 7-11V. Then check the voltage across C12 for 5V. If you
do not have 5V you probably have a short or open someplace. Check your
assembly!
Also check for 5V on pin 5 of U3, and pin 4 of U1.
