(to occupy empty, unused shelf slots) unnecessary. Typically, up to three I-Gate 4000 terminals can be installed in a single cabinet (see Figure 3-2). However, up to six I-Gate 4000 terminals can be installed in a cabinet in a back-to-back setup. 1.1. Purpose of Document This manual instructs the technician in the installation of the I-Gate 4000 system.

Preparations & Precautions Preparations & Precautions This chapter discusses important safety precautions and preparations for installing your I-Gate 4000 terminal. 2.1. Safety Instructions The following safety instructions must be observed. Restricted Access Area: The DC powered equipment should only be installed in a Restricted Access Area.
Warning: The North American and Canadian TUV Approval requirements for equipment installation procedures are as follows: Power Supply Connector: When the I-Gate 4000 is installed in the US and the DSDU is not used, the system is provided with a female power connector (type: Wago, p/n 231-105).

Certain tools and test equipment commonly used on electromechanical systems should never be used on the I-Gate 4000. These include: battery buzzers, AC wire- wrap guns, electric soldering irons and guns, test picks and test lamps.
2.7. Tool List Tools normally available at the telephone exchange such as a wrench, pliers, screwdrivers and wire cutters can be used to install the I-Gate 4000. In addition, the following are needed: Stepladder for cable routing/...
Planning Installation Site Planning Installation Site Before unpacking elements of the I-Gate 4000, you need to select a suitable location for them. Select a site which supports the physical characteristics of the media gateways, and which conforms to the environmental and power characteristics of all the elements.

P l a n n i n g I n s t a l l a t i o n S i t e 3.3. Minimum Distances The I-Gate 4000 terminals, if installed in an ETSI cabinet, can be set up back-to- back, as shown in Figure 3-3.
A 2.2-meter or 2.6-meter ETSI rack mounted unit can accommodate up to three I-Gate 4000 terminals. The I-Gate 4000 is cooled by the flow of air between the terminals mounted in the cabinet. The fans and air baffles ensure that sufficient air flows between the terminals.
Note: These steps are applicable only if the chassis has not been factory- installed in the cabinet. 1. Confirm that the I-Gate 4000 chassis is upright before opening the carton. See Figure 4-1. 2. Remove the packing material without damaging it, in case the unit has to be shipped in the future.

Cabinet Installation Cabinet Installation This chapter provides instructions for on-site cabinet installation of the I-Gate 4000 chassis. For the purposes of installation, the cabinets can be divided into two groups: ETSI or standard 19 in. / 23 in. wide type cabinets 19 in.
11. Tighten the nuts on the anchoring screws, along with the flat washer and lock washer. When tightening each screw, the ETSI cabinet must remain level. 12. If you have removed the lower gateway chassis, replace it. To replace the gateway chassis, perform step 6 in the reverse order. Veraz Networks Inc. Proprietary 01071602-05...

Cooling System (Fan Tray) Cooling System (Fan Tray) The cooling system of an I-Gate 4000 terminal consists of a fan tray and an air baffle (see Figure 7-1). The I-Gate 4000 system is supplied with the cooling system already pre-installed (i.e. you do not need to install the cooling system). Later, however, you can remove the fan tray to replace it, if required.
Master System Controller of the I-Gate 4000, and which performs regular polling of the fans. If a fan fails, a No-Go condition exists in one of the fans, and an alarm indication is sent from the fan tray module to the I-Gate 4000 System Controller.
C o o l i n g S ys t e m ( F a n T r a y) 7.2. Replacing a Fan Tray The I-Gate 4000 chassis allows you to easily replace the fan tray when required, for example, when a fan failure occurs in the fan tray.

I-Gate 4000 32-slot chassis. 8.1. Card Description and Layout The I-Gate 4000 is encased in a 32-slot chassis, which provides two shelves of slots for inserting cards: upper and lower shelf. Each shelf contains 16 slots (i.e. a total of 32 slots).
8.1.1. I/O and Main Cards Description The table below provides a brief description of the I/O and Main cards that can be used by the I-Gate 4000. The card choice and combination, and the slot number, depend on the required interface configuration.
Figure 8-4 shows a typical STM-1/OC-3 card configuration and Table 8-4 lists the cards. Connecting the Cables Connecting the Cables Connecting the Cables After you have installed the cards in the I-Gate 4000 chassis, you are ready to connect cables to the gateway's interface cards. This chapter describes cable connections for the following cards: D8xx (i.e.
The D8xx cards account for the maximum number of balanced or unbalanced trunks that can be connected at any one time to the I-Gate 4000. The first D8UI or D8BI card on the left occupies slot number 17 or 18; the second D8UR or D8BR (redundant) must occupy slot number 19 or 20.
I- Gate 4000, and an "Out" socket, which means that the bitstream that is connected to this socket is going out of the I-Gate 4000. The cable setup for the D8UI, D8UR, and D8UW cards is as follows:...
