EXTERNAL SPEAKER

The R-5000 has an external speaker jack on the rear panel. This allows the user to
connect another speaker to the receiver for better sounding audio. Note that when this jack is
used the internal speaker is cut off. The internal speaker does not have the best audio quality
so an external speaker is a good addition, especially for listening to shortwave broadcasts. The
original external speaker designed for the R-5000, the SP-430, is discontinued. The usual
replacement is the SP-23 that works but does not match the color or styling of the R-5000.

DC POWER CABLE KIT

The DC Power Cable Kit DCK-2 allows the R-5000 to run off 13.8 volts DC at 2 amps. It
consists of a simple cable with connectors at both ends. One connector plugs into connector 5
located near the corner of the AVR board shown in Figure 4. The other connector mounts to the
rear panel. The hole is covered by a metal plate that must be removed first. Included in the kit is
a cable to connect the radio to a cigarette lighter in a vehicle. Technically- inclined users can
probably make their own cable kit, but this option is tough to beat in price (around $15).
