When unpacking the unit, inspect the shipping container and equipment for damage. Save the shipping material for future use. If the container or the equipment is damaged, notify both the freight carrier and Harmonic Inc. To protect the operator from potential injury and to protect the equipment from future damage, do not perform any operational tests.

Dirty optical connectors are the leading source of poor performance in a broadband optical fiber network. Dirty optical connectors lead to optical signal loss and reflections, that in turn can result in serious carrier-to-noise (CNR) performance degradation and in some cases distor- tion performance degradation. Installing the HOA 7000 Series Harmonic recommends that all mating fiber connections be cleaned before making a connection to an optical transmitter. If it is suspected that the optical connector of a HOA module may have been exposed to contamination then properly clean the HOA optical connectors before connecting optical fiber.

Never use a clean air product to spray air into the optical adaptor or on the connector surface. The air causes dust to condense on top of the optics wave guide which is very difficult to remove. Never clean a connector when laser light is passed through it. Copyright © 2001 Harmonic Inc.
