SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS TO BE FOLLOWED IN
CLASSIFYING ORDERS FOR PARTS
Our Stock Room is separated into three Divisions. To facilitate the handling of shipments
orders must be classified as follows: Electrical material, Crated material and General.
Electrical items can be identified by symbol numbers with a " D " or " K " suffix.
Crated
material consists principally of sheet metal parts and large assemblies which it is not practical
to box.
In order to determine the proper classification we have indicated the parts in the Parts List
as follows:
t Indicates parts which are to be classified as Electrical material.
* Indicates parts which are to be classified as Crated material.
All other items listed should not appear on orders with either Electrical or Crated material.
ORDERING BY TELEGRAM
The Cadillac Motor Car Company cannot be responsible for errors which may occur as the
result of incorrectly written or incorrectly transmitted telegrams.
Code words should be used only in direct messages and when the name and serial number
cannot be transmitted in ten words.
In ordering by mail, night letter, day letter or by direct
message, when the order can be written in ten words, the serial number and name of the part
should be given. Code words in night letters or day letters will subject the message to full toll
charges by the telegraph company.
The telegraph code used in this book has been selected for convenience and economy in
telegraphing orders for parts. While it is extremely simple to understand and use, it must be
used with absolute exactness.
This code has been formulated by using the first ten letters of the alphabet, A representing 1,
B-2, C-3, D-4, E-5, F-6, G-7, H-8,1-9, J-0, and coding each serial number using the letters instead
of the figures. The letter " F " precedes each code word and indicates that the code word is taken
from the Type 61 Parts List.
For example the following order is to be codified: Ship by express one F-196 inlet valve,
one F-197 exhaust valve, one F-316 piston with rings, one F-340 fan spring and one F-424 grease
cup with ball check. Substituting the letters for the figures we have FAIF for F-196, FAIG
for F-197, FCAF for F-316, FCDJ for F-340, FDBD for F-424.
The key word "EXCEL" should precede the code in each message.
The codified telegram would read:
Cadillac Motor Car Co.,
,
Detroit, Mich.
Express one each EXCEL, FAIF, FAIG, FCAF, FCDJ, FDBD.
Signed
