12 - Modification kit for special applications

Insert a layer of quartz wool (4) and plug it in very tight.

Insert in the silver wool (5).

Insert the CuO (3). To do so, tap the tube wall with a piece of wood or cork so as to prevent
cavities.

Fill in corundum balls (2).

Insert the ash finger (1).

Clean the grooves on the combustion tube connector, excessive high-vacuum grease leads to
blank C values.

If there is no o-ring in the groove of the combustion tube connector, insert an ungreased o-ring,
excessive high-vacuum grease leads to blank C values.

If there is already an o-ring in the groove of the combustion tube connector (1), replace the old
o-ring if necessary with a new, ungreased o-ring. Cf. When to replace sealing elements.

If there are no o-rings at the bottom of the grooves of the combustion tube connector, insert two
o-rings with a thin layer of high-vacuum grease.

If there are already o-rings at the bottom of the grooves of the combustion tube connector,
replace any old o-rings with new o-rings coated thinly with high-vacuum grease. Cf. When to
replace sealing elements.

Clean any dust off the top of the inside walls of the combustion tube before replacing the
combustion tube connector (1).

Place the combustion tube connection onto the combustion tube so that it surrounds the ash
finger (2) at the top and centers it.

Notes regarding operation:
Observe the following notes regarding further operation:

Operating temperature: 950 °C, max. 980 °C.

In CHN mode, newly filled combustion tubes have to be conditioned before you can perform
measurements. Cf. Conditioning newly installed tubes.
