ENGINE COOLING
The down-draft engine cooling s y s t e m provides ground
and inflight power plant cooling. Engine baffling d i r e c t s
a i r over and around the cylinders and out "le cowl flap
openings. Cowl flap doors allow proper
air
flow on the
ground and during low- speed high-power climb. Pulling
the cowl flap control in front of the right control wheel,
opens the cowl flaps.
VACUUM SYSTEM
An engine-driven vacuum pump supplies suction for the
vacuum-operated gyroscopic flight instruments and the
Mooney Positive Control system. Air entering the vacu-
um-powered instruments i s filtered; hence, sluggish or
e r r a t i c operation of vacuum-driven instruments may
indicate that a clogged vacuum filter element is prevent-
ing adequate a i r intake. A vacuum gage is provided t o
monitor s y s t e m operation.
INSTRUMENTS
FLIGHT INSTRUMENTS
The basic flight instruments a r e grouped on the shock-
mounted flight panel directly in front of the pilot's seat.
Instrument arrangement is in the standard T- gr ouping
with the attitude gyro a t top center and the directional
gyro immediately below. The airspeed indicator and
the altimeter c r o s s the "T".
The vertical speed indi-
cator and the t u r n coordinator a t left of the directional
gyro complete t h e standard flight instrumentation.
An electric clock is mounted in the left side of the flight
panel. The magnetic compass
is
mounted on the wind-
shield post.
