    PoE Switch. Terms/Usage In this guide, the term “Switch” (first letter capitalized) refers to the DGS-1008P while “switch” (first letter lower case) refers to other Ethernet switches. Some technologies use the terms “switch”, “bridge”, and “switching hubs” interchangeably. All of these terms are commonly accepted for referring to Ethernet switches.

    DGS-1008P extends the device’s lifetime while also significantly reducing noise when operating. The DGS-1008P also features a set of diagnostic LEDs which display the status and activity of each port on the device, allowing the user to quickly detect and correct problems if they occur.

    D-Link Switch User Manual Product Overview Front Panel Figure 1 – DGS-1008P Front Panel Item Description Ports 1 to 4 These are 10/100/1000 Mbps PoE-capable ports, used for connecting Ethernet devices and PoE-powered devices. Ports 5 to 8 These are 10/100/1000 Mbps non-PoE ports, used for connecting Ethernet devices.
  • Page 6 When the Switch’s PoE budget is being fully utilized, no additional devices can be powered through the Switch. When the user unplugs a Powered Device (PD) from the DGS-1008P, lowering the total PoE output to less than 66 watts, the PoE Max LED will turn off. The remaining available PoE budget can then be used to power another powered device.

    Understanding The Switch’s Features Cable Diagnostics When the DGS-1008P is booting up, the Switch will scan all the ports to determine the status of the cable connections. The diagnosis results will be displayed through the port LEDs immediately after the port scan has finished.
