1 Connect your source (usually a computer) to the
Modi 2's USB input, helpfully labeled "USB." Use a
short, truly USB 2.0-rated cable (2 meters or less.)
2 Connect the two RCA jacks, labeled "R" and
"L", to your amplifier, preamplifier, or receiver.
You may use long cables—Modi 2's active output
stage drives them with ease.
Select the Modi as the audio output device in both
Control Panel (Windows) or System Preferences
(Mac) AND your audio player software. If you need
drivers, they are available at schiit.com/drivers
3 If your computer does not have drivers for Modi
2, and you cannot install drivers (due to grumpy
system admins, usually) unplug the USB cable
and switch Modi 2 into Simple Mode. Then recon-
nect the USB cable and proceed. Simple Mode
requires no drivers, but limits rates to 24/96.
