Emissivity (EMS) The emissivity of the surface of a material is its effec‐ veness in emi ng energy as thermal radia on. Quan ta vely, emissivity is the ra o of the thermal radia on from a surface to the radia on from an ideal black surface at the same temperature as given by the Stefan–Boltzmann law.
