Connecting an Adaptor
In the event you wish to use the unit with rechargeable batteries
(not included) you will be required to use an
AC/DC
adaptor -
Input 120
VAC
60 Hz - Output 6
VDC
100MA (not included).
• Insert 4 "AAA" NI-MH rechargeable batteries (not included)
• Turn the unit OFF.
• Plug the adaptor into the wall and insert the round end into
the CHARGE JACK marked CHG on the top of the
COMMUNICATOR:
• Unplug the adaptor. Turn the unit ON. The BATIERY LEVEL
INDICATOR on the LCD Screen will display the new
BATIERY LEVEL.
CAUTION: Your COMMUNICATOR must have rechargeable
•AAA" batteries installed before using the external
DC adaptor.
NOTE: It takes approximately 14 hours to fully charge the
batteries if they are at their lowest level.

VOX Function
The
COMMUNICATOR
has
a built-in
Voice Activated
Transmission
(VOX)
capability. While in the
VOX
mode, the
COMMUNICATOR will automatically transmit and receive signals
without any button being pressed.
VOX
operation is not
recommended if you plan to use your radio in a noisy or windy
environment.
To tum on the
VOX
mode:
1. Press the MENU button two times to enter the
VOX
mode;
2. While the
VOX
icon is flashing;
3. Press the UP 4. button to select a higher
VOX
sensitivity;
4. Press the DOWN'" button to select a lower
VOX
sensitivity;
5. Press the MENU button to confirm the selected mode.
NOTE: The
VOX
sensitivity is indicated by the number of bars
displayed in the lower right comer of the LCD Screen.
When in a quiet environment we recommend setting the
sensitivity to maximum (high) and when in a noisy
environment, reduce the sensitivity as needed.
To tum off the
VOX
mode:
1. While the
VOX
icon is flashing press the DOWN'" button until
the number of bars disappear.
2. Press the MENU button to confirm the
VOX
OFF mode.
To use the VOX feature:
1. While in
VOX
mode, plug the connector of the headset (not
included) into SP./MIC jacks of the COMMUNICATOR and
then speak through the microphone of the headset to activate
TRANSMIT mode.
2. When in the VOX mode. speaking into the headset (or loud
noises in the environment) will automatically switch the
COMMUNICATOR from STANDBY mode to TRANSMIT mode.
3.
The TX LED indicator illuminates red when transmitting.
NOTE: The
VOX
mode and sensitivity are automatically
activated once the connector of the headset (not induded)
is inserted into the SP./MIC jack of the COMMUNICATOR.
Now the PTI button of the COMMUNICATOR will not
have to be pressed to transmit signals.

SYMPTOM
SOLUTION
No power.
• Check batteries. Ensure that the batteries are
installed properly.
• The batteries may be weak.
• Replace old batteries with four

new

alkaline batteries or Ni-MH rechargeable bat-
teries.
Reception is
• Press the UP ... button to increase VOLUME.

range.
• If this happens, press the MONITOR MON button.
Cannot change
• To change channels, press the MENU button

• BUDON LOCK mode must

deactivated.
Range is limited. • BADERIES may be weak.
• Replace with new batteries if the BADERY
LEVEL indicator is low.
• The maximum range will vary depending on
terrain and environment.
• Open fields provide the maximum range, while
steel/concrete structures, heavy foliage, and
use in buildings and in vehicles may limit the
range significantly.
• Wearing the radio close to the body. such as in
a pocket or on a belt. will decrease range;
change the location of the radio.
Sound distortion
• If you are transmitting, speak in a normal
problems.

• Radios too close. Radios must be at least 5 feet
apart; increase your distance.
• Radios too far aparl. Obstacles interfere with
