• For additional protection, fit a smoke alarm in each room – except
in the kitchen/cooking area, bathrooms or garage – where smoke or
steam can set them off accidentally.
• Always make sure that the sound of the smoke alarms can be heard in
the bedrooms.
• Additional smoke alarms could give earlier warning, and increase the
chance of safe escape and rescue from a fire.

Do not fit smoke alarms in the following locations:
• Near the angle between the ceiling and walls where the air stands still and
form a "dead air space" that prevents smoke from reaching the smoke alarm.

• In kitchens, garages, or bathrooms or other high humidity areas, where

combustion particles or moisture can cause nuisance alarms.
• Near fresh air vents, fans or extractors. Draughts can blow smoke away
from the alarm.
• In areas where excessive dust or dirt could contaminate the sensing
chamber, making it over sensitive or impairing smoke entry.
• In areas where the ambient temperature is not controlled, and may drift

below 5˚C or above 40˚C. High humidity could cause nuisance alarms.
• Within 1.5 m (60") of a fluorescent or halogen light fitting, or LED-lamps,
which emits electrical 'noise' that can prevent correct smoke alarm operation.
• In insect infested areas. Insects can clog smoke openings and or cause
nuisance alarms.
• Do not paint the smoke alarm.
Installation
1. Remove the mounting plate by turning it
slightly anti-clockwise.
2. Insert two AAA/LR03 alkaline batteries - observe
correct polarity (+/-)!
3. Press and hold the test button for a few seconds
until the alarm sounds.
4. The red LED below the cover should now flash
once every minute.

5. Fit the mounting plate to the ceiling using the
screws provided. Then attach the smoke alarm
securely to the mounting plate.
Silencer / Pause function
BEDROOM
Placing the smoke alarm close to a kitchen, fireplace or other heat sources
can sometimes cause accidental triggering. In these cases the smoke alarm
can be temporarily turned off by pressing the test button. Thereafter, the
alarm will then automatically revert back to normal sensitivity. The red LED
will flash every 8 seconds to indicate that it is in pause mode and will auto-
matically revert back to normal operation after 10 minutes.

Test and care

1. Test the smoke alarms at least once every month, and preferably
once per week, e.g. when you house clean.
2. Always test the smoke alarms after returning from holidays or after being
away for a prolonged period. The test button accurately tests the smoke
alarm's sensing circuit, there is no need to test your alarm with smoke.

3. The smoke alarm sounds as long as the test button is pressed down
or as long as there is smoke in it.
4. Make sure the batteries are correctly connected. Replace the batteries

5. Below the cover is a red LED which flashes every minute. It shows that
the smoke alarm is working.
6. Vacuum the smoke alarms every six months and wipe them with a damp cloth.

Battery replacement

Batteries last for about one year or longer, depending on battery type.

About one month before the batteries are completely discharged, the
smoke alarm will start to emit short signals "chirp", about every minute. This
is the battery replacement signal. Replace batteries with 1.5 V AAA/LR03
alkaline: e.g. Clas Ohlson, Varta, Deltronic, Eiden or Duracell. Always test a
smoke alarm after replacing the batteries!

smoke alarm will be free from defects in material, workmanship, or design
under normal use and service for a period of 5 years. This guarantee is not
assignable. Our liability to you, under this guarantee is limited to repairing or
replacing any part which we find to be defective in material, workmanship
or design, free of charge to the customer, upon sending (postage paid) or
supplying the alarm with proof of purchase to any of our branches. The
terms of this guarantee will not apply if the alarm has been modified, dis-
mantled, contaminated, damaged neglected or otherwise abused, or if this
manual has not been followed. The liability of Clas Ohlson UK Ltd arising
from the sale of this alarm or under the terms of this guarantee shall not in any
case exceed the cost of replacement of
the alarm. In no case, shall Clas Ohlson
UK Ltd be liable for consequential loss or
damage resulting from the failure of the
alarm, or the breach of this or any other
guarantee, expressed or implied or for
damage caused by failure to abide by the
EN 14604:2005+AC:2008 smoke alarm
