Maintaining and servicing your 'A' Class

Replacing your 'A' Class' lamps (Engine)
Y
our 'A' Class locomotive is illuminated by
three lamps. One is located in the front
pilot illuminating the headlight. The second
is located behind the motor for the firebox
glow, and the third illuminates the inside of
the cab. During the course of normal opera-
tions, they may require replacement.
Lamp Numbers:
Headlight (1)
Cab and firebox (1 each)
Note: Engine Marker Lights are LEDs (light emitting diodes) and are not user serviceable.
Replacing your 'A' Class' lamps (Tender)
Y
our 'A' Class tender is illuminated by one
lamp, located at the rear of the tender.
Remove the tender body by unscrewing the
six screws located on the underside of the
tender (see page 6 for screw locations).
Carefully lift the tender body from the frame
taking care with the lamp wiring assembly
which is still attached to the tender body.
Unscrew the bracket holding the lamp.
Remove the expired lamp and replace with
Lionel part no. 610-8049-300. All lamps are
available from your Authorized Lionel Service
Center or Lionel Service. See the Lionel Service
section on page 16 for more information.
Tire-Traction™
Y
our locomotive is equipped with Tire-
Traction. This means that four of the
drive wheels are fitted with rubber traction
tires to enhance tractive effort so your loco-
motive can pull many cars at once.
Lionel has provided extra traction tires to
replace the installed traction tires if they

reassembling the tender, make sure all wires
are inside the body before the screws are
tightened.

Note: Due to the complexity of the disas-
sembly required to replace the lamps in your
'A' Class, we recommend that you take your
locomotive to your Authorized Lionel Service
Center for any required lamp replacement.
Reassemble in reverse order. While
wear out. Simply unscrew the drive rod nut
from the wheel and slip off the old traction
tire and remove it from under the drive rod.
Place the new one on the wheel in the reverse
of this step and tighten the drive rod nut
back up and you're ready to pull that long
freight back to the yard.
