POSSIBLEICAUSE
*Incorrectsortingof clothes.Separatelint producers(suchas terry towelsand
chenille)from lint receivers(suchas man-madefabrics,velveteen,corduroy).
. Washingtoo long,especiallyfor smallerloads.For normalsoil, washone minute
per poundof dry clothes.
~Use of non-phosphate detergentswhichcombinewithhardnessmineralsto form a
precipitatewhichcan be mistakenfor lint. Use a phosphateor liquiddetergent;use
warmerwash wateror softenwaterwith an installedmechanicalsofteneror a
packagedwatersoftener.
e Powderyresiduefromgranulardetergentmay appearto be lint. Predissolve~~anular
detergentin hot waterbeforeaddingto washer;makesure detergentis completely
dissolvedbeforeaddingclothes;switchto liquidor cold waterdetergentor use
warmerwash water.See Detergentsection.
e Overloadingwill causeabrasionwhichcreatesexcessivelint.Washfewer items
with correctwater level.
oToomuchbleach.Use correctamountof bleachaccordingto packagedirections.
*Not enoughdetergentto hold lintin suspensionduringwashcycle.Increaseamount
of detergent.See Detergentsection.
e Incorrectuse of fabricsoftener.If used in wash cycle,softenersmayreact with
detergentto createa whitedeposit.Use softenersin rinsecycleonlyunlesspackage
specifiesaddingto washcycle.See OtherLaundryProductssection.
e Pillingusuallyon polyester-cotton blendsis causedby normalwear and may look
like lint.Turningclothesinside-outmay providesomehelp.
e Staticelectricitycausedby overdryingwill causeattraction.Use fabricsoftenerin
e
rinse cycle.
These are sometimescalled "Invisible Stains"becauseyoumaynotnoticethembefore
washingclothes.However,if oily soilsare not completelyremovedin wash cycle,
the oilyspotsmay pickup dirtfromthewashwater.The spotswiUthenbe veryvisible.

1.Use waterconditioner(suchas Calgonbrand).
2. Pretreatstains.
3. Usethe hottestwaterpossible.
4. Use bleachwherepossible.
5. Use presoakaids.
6. Installwatersoftener.
~Washeroverloaded.Clothescannotmove freely to loosenand removesoil, causing
gray appearance.Followcorrectloadingproceduresfor size of load.
