HP StoreOnce Housekeeping
Housekeeping is a regular background task run by the StoreOnce Backup System to optimize the physical storage
utilization by reclaiming space after backup data is deleted or expired by vRanger. After a deletion or expiration,
any unique chunks are marked for removal and duplicate chunks are de-referenced to the deleted data.
Housekeeping is governed by a back-off algorithm which throttles it back to reduce its impact on other concurrent
operations. However, there may still be some impact of housekeeping on the performance of backups running to
other files. For this reason it is recommended to schedule Housekeeping to occur outside the vRanger backup window
to enable the maximum resources to be applied to processing the backup data stream. By default, the Housekeeping
processes are run on a per-backup file basis and will run on the backup file as soon as the file is closed by vRanger.
