2-3. How to Start the Diagnostics

Precaution: The supplied floppy disk containing the diagnostics program can be damaged when the FDD test ends in fail. Log
is also stored in the diagnostics FD and read/write test of FDD is performed during diagnosis. Be sure to make a
backup of the diagnostics floppy disk and use a backup disk for diagnostics.
Starting up the diagnostics
• Specify the FDD as the startup drive so that the system boots up from the diagnostics FD.
• Insert the diagnostics CD-ROM media into the CD-ROM bay. Insert the diagnostics FD into the FDD bay. Turn off the
main power of the system once and back on to boot up the system from the diagnostics FD.
• The FDD bay is normally connected to the parallel port while the CD-ROM bay is installed in the device bay. However, use
of the docking station is required or CD-ROM is not required depending on some contents of the test.
• When the system is booted from the diagnostics floppy disk, the start menu appears. Select an desired item to execute the
diagnostics. When PASS is displayed as the result of diagnostics, the test is ended without any errors. When FAIL is
displayed as the result of diagnostics, the test is ended with some errors.

2-4. Test Items

From the start menu, select 1: Execute BASIC Diagnostics when you want sequential test of items after items. Select 2: Go to
SUB MENU when you want to select a specified test item from the menu.
The asterisk mark (*) in the following test items indicate the tests which are implemented by the Basic Diagnostics.
Start Menu
1: Diagnostics for PCG-720 Series
1: Execute BASIC Diagnostics
The test items shown by the asterisk mark (*) of the PCG-720 Series Diagnostics are performed one after another.
2: Go to SUB MENU
Select the respective test items of the PCG-720 Series Diagnostics from the menu and perform the selected test.
3: Return to START MENU
2: PASSWORD BYPASS
The password which bypasses the PASSWORD is created.
3: Quit START MENU
Exits the diagnostics.
