Getting started The STYLISTIC ST41XX Tablet PC is a powerful pen-based computer that has been designed to support Microsoft Windows XP Tablet PC Edition. This chapter provides an overview of the Tablet PC and its features and controls. Tablet PC features and controls Features and controls that you use to operate the Tablet PC are outlined below and illustrated in the figures.

When you press the Fn + Email buttons at the same time, you automatically launch the Web browser. The default page to which you go is the Fujitsu Siemens Computers home page. Before the buttons function as described, the Internet connection must be set up and e-mail retrieval from the server must be configured.

Pressing the Fn + ENT buttons at the same time, acts to invoke a pre-determined application or keystroke combination, as assigned the Tablet Button Settings utility.
BIOS Setup. Any changes you make take effect as soon as you save and quit the BIOS Setup. The system is booting up while the Fujitsu Siemens Computers logo is displayed immediately after turning on the system. The following table shows which additional functions the application and navigation buttons offer when booting the system and in the BIOS Setup.

Getting started Port / Peripheral Tablet PC icon Purpose The LAN (RJ-45) jack is used to connect the Local Area Network internal Fast Ethernet (10/100 Base-T/Tx) to a (LAN) Local Area Network (LAN) in your office or home. You also can connect broadband devices such as DSL internet.
Using the Tablet PC This chapter covers the fundamental concepts, basic system operation and use, and system functions of the Tablet PC. You should familiarise yourself with this information before you attempt to operate the system. The casing of your Tablet PC can become very warm during prolonged operation with the power supply unit.
Using the Tablet PC Hibernate mode (S4) System operation is suspended. All system functions are turned off to conserve power. Active data in programs that were running before suspending system operation is stored on the hard disk drive. The system does not respond to the pen or other input. Refer to the "Resuming operation" section in this chapter for information on returning the system to the ON mode.

Using the Tablet PC Observe the power indicator in the status display to determine which suspend mode your system is using. − Flashing: Suspend-to-RAM-Modus In this mode, active data is saved by maintaining power to RAM while most other system components are powered off.
Using the Tablet PC • The suspend function of the On/Resume/Suspend button may be disabled to prevent accidental interruption. If this is the case, pressing the On/Resume/Suspend button will not suspend system operation as described here. (In this case, suspend mode can only be achieved using the system software.) Contact your authorised sales partner if your system configuration is not suitable.
Using the Tablet PC Adjusting the display brightness Depending upon whether you are running your system on battery or power adapter, the default screen brightness settings will be different. The screen brightness default for running on battery is lower than that on power adapter in order to optimise battery life. If you do not use the Tablet PC for a short time, you can minimise or switch off the screen lighting to save energy.

Using the Tablet PC Delete hand-written pen entries Ê Press the back part of the rocker button (facing toward the pen grip) and move the pen tip over the characters to be deleted. Move cursor Ê Hold the pen tip within 1/8 inch (3 -5 mm) from the screen and move the pen. Calibrating the pen To calibrate, please run the Tablet and Pen Settings function in the Control Panel.
Using the Tablet PC Replacing the pen tip With use, the pen tip may become worn or may pick up foreign particles that can scratch the screen. A damaged or worn tip may not move freely, causing unpredictable results when using the pen. If your pen exhibits these problems, you should replace the pen tip.

Wireless LAN Your Tablet PC can be upgraded with an integrated wireless LAN module (PRISM Wireless LAN) as an option. The PRISM Configuration Utility is provided for configuration and status displays of the network card. This chapter describes how to install the drivers and the configuration utility and how to make settings for your wireless LAN.

Wireless LAN Radio frequencies and security standards The following information represents the status of January 2002. Current information is available from the corresponding government office of your country (e.g. www.regtp.de). Frequencies Wireless network cards and adapters are intended for operation in the ISM (Industrial, Scientific, Medical) frequency range between 2.4 and 2.4835 GHz in accordance with the IEEE standard 802.11b.
Wireless LAN Settings If the drivers and the configuration utility are installed, the "Wireless LAN" radio icon appears in the lower right-hand corner of the toolbar of your Windows desktop. The background colour of the icon indicates the connection status. The following illustration shows the icon with a yellow background as an example.
Wireless LAN Configuration utility There are two methods of calling the configuration utility: • by double-clicking on the wireless LAN radio icon in the toolbar • with Start - Programs - PRISM Wireless LAN Configuration. The configuration utility consists of the four tabs Status, Configuration, Encryption and About. The possible settings are described in the following.
Wireless LAN Meaning of entries and buttons Shows the connection status of your system in the wireless LAN. In the State infrastructure mode this field shows the physical address (MAC address) of the AccessPoint. In the adhoc mode the field shows the virtual MAC address that is used by all subscribers in the adhoc network.

Wireless LAN Meaning of entries and buttons Profile Name A profile is a collection of parameters for the network card. If you select an existing profile, all parameters are set as defined in the profile. Click on the arrow next to the Profile Name field to display the available profiles. The Default profile is provided as a standard and contains the parameters that were configured during the installation.
Wireless LAN "Encryption" tab The Encryption tab permits encryption and specifies the coding/decoding key. Meaning of entries and buttons Enryption (WEP Specifies the encryption type. You can select a 40-bit or a 104-bit key. If you set encryption, you can only communicate with AccessPoints and security) stations that use the same encryption.
