Using an Extension Cable
This 115V unit is intended to be use with a safety
transformer manufactured to BSEN 61558 &
BS4343.
WARNING: NEVER work without a
transformer in place!
If an extension cable is required, use an approved
3–core extension cable suitable for the power input
of this tool (see "Technical Data").The minimum
conductor size is 1.5 mm
2
; the maximum length is
30 m.
When using a cable reel, always unwind the cable
completely.
ASSEMBLY AND ADJUSTMENTS
WARNING: To reduce the risk of
injury, turn unit off and disconnect
machine from power source before
installing and removing accessories,
before adjusting or changing set-
ups or when making repairs. Be sure
the trigger switch is in the OFF position.
An accidental start-up can cause injury.
Fitting and Removing 1/4" Hex Drive
Accessories
Your D
WALT screwdriver has a 1/4" hexagonal
E
drive system. The drive accessory is retained in the
holder by a ball and a spring which engages in a
groove in the accessory shank.

(FIG. 1A, 2)
1. Remove the collar (d) by pulling it forward.
2. Select the required accessory (both models)
and matching depth locator (e) when using a
nutsetter (DW263/DW264).
3. To insert the accessory (l), e.g., a bit holder or
nutsetter, push it into the holder (h) until it snaps
in place. Tap it lightly if required.
4. To remove the accessory, pull it out of the
holder using a pair of pliers.
5. Reinstall the collar (d) by aligning the ribs (i) on
the inside of the collar (d) with the grooves (j) in
the clutch housing and snap the collar in place.
DW268/DW269 (FIG. 1B)
1. Pull the ball retainer (g) to the front and hold it.
2. Insert the accessory.
3. Release the ball retainer.
REPLACING THE BIT TIP (FIG. 2)
Simply pull out the bit tip (k). A pair of pliers may be
required.
Driving Depth (fi g. 3)
DW263/DW264/DW274/DW274KN/DW275/DW275KN
The depth sensitive feature offers the following
advantages:
– The selected driving depth is repeatable for
structural integrity.
– Screws with sealing washers are driven correctly
so that no leaks occur.
SETTING THE DRIVING DEPTH
The driving depth is determined by the position of
the depth locator (e) in relation to the bit or socket.
The symbols on the collar (d) indicate how to set the
driving depth.
• Turn the collar (d) clockwise to increase the
driving depth.
• Turn the collar (d) counterclockwise to decrease
the driving depth.
VERSA CLUTCH
UNITS
®
DW268/DW269 (FIG. 1B)
External adjustment of all Versa Clutch
a wide range of fastener sizes is fast and easy, as
follows:
1. Pull forward, then rotate collar in increase
direction (stamped on adjustment collar) to
increase the amount of clutch engagement and
torque output.
2. Maximum rotation of the collar in the increase
direction results in full clutch engagement and
maximum torque output and fastener capacity.
Collar and adjustable stop will not screw off
clutch housing.
3. Test drive a fastener into a scrap piece to check
proper fastener seating. It is normal after a
period of use to require a slightly different collar
setting due to wear on the clutch faces.
NOTE: With Versa Clutch
®
, the operator has the
ability to "override" clutch ratchet if a fastener hits a
wood knot, variable hardness in steel work pieces or
incorrect pilot holes. Increased operator pressure will
usually cause the clutches to pick-up and continue
to seat the fastener. Further, a quick twist of the
collar will change the clutch setting to overcome
most driving difficulties and will provide for immediate
change in torque output giving the operator the
option to drive a wide range of fastener sizes.
