When shifting into Reverse (R) with a
manual transmission, you must bring
your vehicle to a complete stop. If the
vehicle is still rolling when trying to
engage Reverse (R), the transmission
will be damaged.
The manual transmission has a
lockout feature that prevents shifting
from 5th gear to Reverse (R). If the
shift lever is moved toward the 5th
gear position before attempting to
shift into Reverse (R), the lockout
mechanism engages. Return to the
Neutral position to unlatch the
lockout mechanism.
If you find it difficult to shift into
Reverse (R), return the shift lever to
Neutral (N) and release the clutch
pedal; then depress the clutch pedal
again and shift into Reverse (R).

You must fully depress the clutch
pedal to start your vehicle. The clutch
pedal also should be fully depressed
when shifting gears.
Do not drive with your foot resting on
the clutch pedal. This may cause
premature wear.

When this light comes on, you can
shift to the next higher gear if
weather, road and traffic conditions
permit. For the best fuel economy,
accelerate slowly and shift when the
light comes on.

StabiliTrak is an advanced computer-
controlled vehicle stability
enhancement system that assists
with directional control of the vehicle
during sudden maneuvers or low
traction situations in poor weather. It
is normal to hear the system working,
and the system will automatically
disengage cruise control when
activated. StabiliTrak comes on
automatically when the vehicle is
started and does not require any
driver input.
You should always leave StabiliTrak on
to assist with directional control of
your vehicle. However, if you need to
turn off StabiliTrak, press and hold the
button on the instrument panel for
five seconds. STAB SYS OFF will be
displayed on the DIC. StabiliTrak also
is disabled when the vehicle is shifted
into Four-Wheel-Low Lock.

If you have an automatic
transmission, you can tow in
Drive (D). You may want to shift the
transmission to Third (3) or, if
necessary, a lower gear if the
transmission shifts too often under
heavy loads and/or hilly conditions.
If you have a manual transmission
and you are towing a trailer, it is
better not to use the highest gear.
