Note: Review the air conditioning literature supplied in your Owner's Packet before proceeding,
The roof air conditioner used on Airstream trailers is one of the most popular on the market today. In your Owner's
Packet is a set of literature covering all operating and maintenance instructions. If the literature is misplaced please
contact the air conditioner manufacturer or your Airstream dealer for replacement.
The voltage to the air conditioner is critical. We commonly refer to 110 or 120 volts, but a check with a voltmeter
may find voltage much lower. Your air conditioner will probably not function if the current drops below 105 volts.
Low voltage is usually associated with older or poorly maintained trailer parks, but many people have found their
homes, built only twenty or thirty years ago, may not be capable of operating the air conditioner on some
receptacles, Parking your motorhome so the power cord can be plugged into a receptacle close to the fuse or circuit
breaker box can alleviate the problem. Avoid extension cords and adapters whenever possible. If an extension cord
must be used it should be as short and heavy as possible to provide the most current to the air conditioner.
If high temperatures are expected you should make an effort to park in a shaded area. Starting the air conditioner
early in the morning also helps. It is much easier to hold a comfortable temperature than it is to lower the
temperature after the interior of the trailer is already hot.
