    Introduction Congratulations on the purchase of your new Puretone digital hearing system which your hearing care professional has chosen and adjusted to suit your personal requirements. In order to gain the maximum benefit from the system it is recommended that you read this user guide thoroughly to familiarise yourself with the control panel and various functions available.

    The type of battery used in your hearing system will depend upon the model you have. Size 312 Model: Brown P680RW Size 10A Model: Yellow P1500R Puretone recommends PureCell Plus batteries. Replacement batteries and accessories are available from your hearing care professional or from www.puretoneretail.net.

    Battery Installation Open the battery compartment by using the finger nail notch on the edge of the battery tray as shown in fig. 1. Remove the used battery if present. Pull off the protective sticker on the new battery using the tab provided and wait a few seconds for air to enter and begin to activate.

    Switching On When the battery door is closed (with a battery inserted), the hearing system turns on, and the default program will be activated. Delayed Activation If you prefer to turn on your hearing system just prior to placing it on your ear, your hearing care professional can activate a function called Delayed Activation.

    Multi-Function Button (Only applicable to P680RW) The multi-function button is designed to change the volume or listening programs of the hearing instrument, based on different ways it is pressed. WARNING Never use the device on a higher volume setting than is comfortable as this may result in damage to your hearing.

    Additional Features (Only applicable to P680RW) Your hearing system supports wireless functionality and can be paired with a wireless accessory like TV Streamer so you can activate streaming mode. 1. Press and hold the push button for 2 seconds. 2. You will then hear short melody that indicates streaming mode.

    Additional Features Telephone Use Finding the optimal position for holding a telephone may require practice for some individuals, and one or more of the following suggestions may be helpful. 1. Hold the telephone as you would normally. 2. Hold the telephone towards the top of the ear (closer to where the microphones are).

    Additional Features AutoPhone (optional) The AutoPhone function, allows your hearing system to automatically switch to your telephone program when a telephone receiver with an AutoPhone magnet is raised to the ear. When the telephone receiver is removed from the ear, the hearing system automatically returns to the previous listening program.
  • Page 15 Additional Features AutoPhone Warnings 1. Keep magnets out of reach of pets and children. If a magnet is swallowed, please seek advice from a medical practitioner. 2. The AutoPhone magnet may affect some medical devices or electronic systems. The manufacturer of any magnetically sensitive devices (e.g. pacemakers) should advise you regarding appropriate safety precautions when using your hearing system and magnet in close proximity to the medical device or electronic system in question.
  • Page 16: Telecoil / Inductive Loop Systems

    Additional Features Telecoil (optional) If equipped, a telecoil can be activated by your hearing care professional and accessed through one of the additional programs. A telecoil picks up a telephone’s magnetic signal and converts it to sound. An optional telephone program may help to improve speech understanding on the telephone.

    Additional Features Direct Audio Input (Only applicable to P680RW) Use of Direct Audio Input (DAI), which enables a direct connection of the hearing system to items such as television, radio, and remote microphones, may increase speech understanding for some individuals. The sound source is connected to the hearing system by a cable or a wireless FM system to the audio boot.

    Additional Features Removing Audio Boots 1. Press and hold the button on the front side of the audio boot. 2. Gently remove the audio boot from the hearing system. Low Battery Indicator Your hearing care professional can set your hearing system to give an acoustical indication when the battery is reaching its end of life.

    Device Insertion - Domes Fitting Domes It is recommended that your hearing care professional change domes, as incorrect dome replacement could result in the dome falling out in the ear. Standard Domes 1. Push the new dome over the flanges on the receiver. 2.
  • Page 20 Device Insertion - Domes 1) Identify which eartip is for the left ear and which is for the right ear. The left eartip will have a blue marking, and the right will have a red marking. 2) Gently pull the bottom of your ear down with your thumb and finger.
  • Page 21 Device Insertion - Custom RIE Mould 1) Identify which earpiece is for the left ear and which is for the right ear. The left earpiece will have a blue marking, and the right will have a red marking. 2) Hold the RIE mould between your thumb and index finger and position its sound outlet in your ear canal.

    Device Removal To remove the RIE mould from the ear, gently grasp the removal cord and pull the RIE mould outward. NOTE: Do not pull the receiver tube directly, as it may break. To remove the open fitting dome from the ear, gently hold the receiver tube with your thumb and forefinger and pull the tube outward.

    The Receiver Tube The receiver tube is available in two different power levels: Normal Power (NP) and High Power (HP). Depending on your hearing loss you have either been fitted with the NP or the HP receiver type. The receiver tube contains the wiring to the receiver which delivers the sound to the ear canal.

    Cleaning The Receiver Tubes & Domes The receiver tube and the receiver dome should be cleaned regularly. Use a damp cloth to clean the receiver tube and receiver dome on the outside. Do not use water when you are cleaning the receiver tubes or the receiver domes.

    Expectations Your hearing system is not a cure for hearing loss. Listening in situations with background noise may still be a little difficult. Hearing benefits tend to be more apparent after a few weeks of regular wear. If the device feels loose in the ear gently push it into the ear until it feels secure.

    Care & Maintenance Your new hearing system is a precision engineered micro-electronic device and although it is robust in construction, it should always be handled with care to prolong its useful working life. Avoid dropping the hearing system. When replacing batteries or cleaning, always handle over something soft, such as a pillow or folded towel.
  • Page 32 Care & Maintenance As with other electronic devices, do not expose your device directly to moisture such as driving rain or water from the shower. Always remove the hearing system in situations where it may become contaminated with water or hairspray. If your hearing system does get wet or if it has been exposed to high humidity or perspiration, it should be left out to dry overnight with the battery out and the battery compartment open.

    Care & Maintenance When not to wear your hearing system If you are experiencing drainage, pain, bleeding or infection in the ear, do not use your hearing system and seek medical advise. If you are exposed to sources of loud noises, power tools or heavy machinery, do not wear your hearing system.

    Battery Care Remove the activation sticker from the flat side of the battery before use. If you are not using your hearing system for an extended period, remove the battery to prevent any risk of corrosion. Store batteries in a dry, safe place; away from food and medicines. Keep out of reach of children or pets.

    Disposal Information Within the European Union, the marked equipment is covered by “Directive 2002/96/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 27 January 2003 on waste electrical and electronic equipment.” Amended by “Directive 2003/108/EC” (WEEE).
