    Fragile dishes A number of household goods are not suit- able for machine washing. This can be due to a variety of reasons. Certain materials cannot withstand intense heat; others can be damaged by the dishwasher detergent. However, if you have calciferous (hard) water, lime deposits can form in the dishwasher. In this case, run a normal wash program with two tablespoons of citric acid in the dishwasher detergent compartment.
