3.5 Firmware Update

3.5.1 New Installation
An AP7131N is shipped with the firmware (compliance to Common Criteria Certification) pre-installed
and the factory default configuration. No software installation required in this case.
3.5.2 AP7131N-GR running a previously certified FIPS firmware release less than
v4.0.4.0.
NOTE
Ensure that the device is eligible to be upgraded with the Common Criteria firmware image:
• Verify the Model and Part numbers which are available at the bottom of the unit on the
product label. Motorola Access Point AP7131N-GR Part numbers are:
• AP-7131N-66040-FGR Rev. E (US Only)
• AP-7131N-66040-FWW Rev. F (World Wide use, except US)
• Verify that there are three tamper evident labels on the appliance. The three tamper evident
labels are applied over the panels and sides of the module at the factory to provide evidence
of tampering. The tamper label has the Motorola logo printed on it.
• Verify the firmware version.
An existing AP7131N-GR which is running a release of FIPS firmware version less than 4.0.4.0 can
also be upgraded to the Common Criteria certified firmware. This earlier FIPS configuration is
non-compliant with Common Criteria specification. So, first export the existing configuration to a
SFTP (backup) server, upgrade the firmware and then import back the earlier exported configuration.
Import procedure is different than the regular one.
1. Take the backup of current configuration settings. Export the access point current
configuration settings before updating the firmware to have the most recent settings
available after the firmware is updated.
2. Go to
admin(system.config)>
a. Enter an IP address of the SFTP server used for the update. Only numerical IP address
names are supported, no DNS can be used. The examples are indicative.
admin(system.config)>set server 192.168.22.12
This is not an approved CC migration path, it is only acceptable for FIPS.
