General Information

Disconnect negative battery cable
WARNING
before servicing. If the positive
battery cable contacts ground
with the negative cable connected it may cause
a battery explosion which could result in death
or serious injury.
This engine uses one of two types of flywheels.

High Inertia Flywheel

The first type is cast iron. This type of flywheel will have
a pressed-on steel ring gear.
NOTE
If the engine is equipped with an electric starter the steel
ring gear is nonserviceable.

Diecast Aluminum Flywheel

The second and most popular style of flywheel is diecast
aluminum. The aluminum flywheel features a replaceable
plastic fan.
NOTE
If the engine is equipped with an electric starter the plas-
tic ring gear is nonserviceable.
