PROBLEM
Engine runs, but mower will not
drive.
Transmission drive belt slips.
Brake will not hold.
Mower steers hard or handles poorly. Steering linkage is loose.
TROUBLESHOOTING THE MOWER DECK
PROBLEM
Engine stalls easily with mower
engaged.
Excessive mower vibration.
Excessive belt wear or breakage.
Mower drive belt slips or fails to
drive.

CAUSE
Hydraulic release valves in "open"
position.
Belt is broken.
Drive belt slips.
Brake is not fully released.
Pulleys or belt greasy or oily.
Clutch is out of adjustment.
Belt stretched or worn.
Brake is incorrectly adjusted.
Brake mechanism is worn.
Improper tire infl ation.
CAUSE
Engine speed too slow.
Ground speed too fast.
Cutting height set too low.
Discharge chute jamming with cut grass Cut grass with discharge pointing to-
Blade mounting screws are loose.
Mower blades, arbors or pulleys are
bent.
Mower blades are out of balance.
Belt installed incorrectly.
Bent or rough pulleys.
Using incorrect belt.
Belt tension improperly adjusted.
Idler pulley spring broken or not prop-
erly adjusted.
Mower drive belt broken.
REMEDY
Position hydraulic release valves in
"drive" position.
See Drive Belt Replacement.
See problem and cause below.
See service dealer.
Clean as required.
See service dealer.
Replace belt.
See Brake Adjustment.
Have transaxle repaired.
Check and tighten any loose
connections.
See Regular Maintenance section.
REMEDY
Set to full throttle.
Decrease ground speed.
Cut tall grass at maximum cutting height
during fi rst pass.
ward previously cut area.
Tighten to 70-90 ft.lbs. (94-120 Nm)
Check and replace as necessary.
Remove, sharpen and balance blades.
See Maintenance section.
Reinstall correctly.
Repair or replace.
Replace with correct belt.
Adjust belt tension. See Belt Replace-
ment.
Repair or adjust as needed.
Replace drive belt.
