After laminating the badge, proceed as follows to encode
it:
1 Choose the Encode button to display a list of records for
which badges have been recently printed.
Note: If a record is on the list, its magnetic stripe has not
been encoded yet.
2 Click on the record to highlight it, then choose the
Encode button. (This button may have a slightly different
name on your system.)
3 Wait for an on-screen prompt or a light on the encoder to
indicate that the system is ready to encode the badge.
(The indicator depends on the encoder being used.)
4 Insert the badge in the encoder or pass it through the
encoding slot, as appropriate for your encoder.
5 Wait for an on-screen message or a light on the encoder
to confirm that encoding was successful. (Not all
encoders provide this confirmation.)
Batch encoding recently printed badges
Because magnetic stripe encoding usually takes place
after diecutting and laminating, it is sometimes more
efficient to diecut, laminate and encode in small batches.
The ID-4000 is designed to provide such batch
processing.
To process in batches, perform the usual badge-printing
sequence without encoding the magnetic stripes. After
you have accumulated a reasonable number of
laminated badges, repeat steps 1–5 until all the badges
are encoded.
Batch encoding for selected records
You can also batch-encode magnetic stripes for selected
database records, even if the badges were not printed
recently and do not appear on the list displayed by the
Encode button. To do so, use the procedure in
Batch-encoding magnetic stripes in Chapter 5.
With the batch-encoding procedure in Chapter 5, you
create a list of records by selecting from the database.
