Drive (D)
Use this position for
normal driving. The transmission
automatically selects a suitable gear
for your speed and acceleration. You
may notice the transmission shifting
up at higher speeds when the engine
is cold. This helps the engine warm
up faster.
Press firmly on the brake pedal
when you are stopped in Drive, 3/M,
2, 1, N or Reverse. Never press on
the accelerator pedal at the same
time.
For faster acceleration when passing,
you can get the transmission to
automatically downshift by pushing
the accelerator pedal to the floor.
The transmission will shift down to a
lower gear.
With the
SportShift (3/M)
console shift lever in this position,
you can use the SportShift lever on
the right pod to shift gears; much
like a manual transmission without a
clutch pedal. Each time you push up
on the SportShift lever, the
transmission will shift up to the next
higher gear. Push down on the lever
to downshift. The number of the
selected gear is displayed next to the
''M'' indicator (See page

Automatic Transmission
If you move the console shift lever
from ''D'' to ''3/M'' while the vehicle
is moving, the transmission remains
in the gear it was in. If you do this
while stopped, the transmission
selects first gear.
When you accelerate away from a
stop, the transmission will be in first
gear. If you do not manually upshift
to second gear, the transmission will
automatically upshift when the
).
engine reaches redline, or when you
reduce pressure on the accelerator
pedal. It will remain in second gear
until you either upshift manually or
come to a stop.
The transmission remains in the
selected gear (4, 3, or 2). There is no
automatic downshift when you push
the accelerator pedal to the floor.
The only time it will shift
automatically is when the vehicle
comes to almost a complete stop. It
will then downshift to first gear.
