Reconditioning

Reconditioning
We recommend that all movable parts are lubricated with a dry teflon-based
spray, e.g. Viso 900-B5, if they stick or squeak.
Screws and nuts: Check that all screws and nuts are tight. Screws and nuts
should be retightened periodically, as they can loosen over time. Screws which
are removed completely, should be replaced with new ones, especially locking
nuts, as they loose some of their locking features if removed. Contact Invacare
for information regarding spareparts.
Chassis: All parts must be checked for cracks or any other damage. Pay special
attention to areas close to welds. If any damage is discovered, the part must be
completely replaced.
Covers: If a cover is torn, we recommend that it be replaced.
Seat/backrest angle: Check this function by changing the angle of the backrest
and the seat through the lowest to the highest settings using the backrest con-
trols. If you cannot tilt the seat or angle the backrest, start by adjusting the wire
next to the gas piston holder. If this does not help, you need to replace the gas
spring. Also check at a middle setting and make sure the piston locks correctly.
Please note: The gas spring must not be opened – it contains gas and oil at
very high pressure.
Backrest: Check that the backrest is firmly in place and that the knobs are
secure on the backrest.
Push handles/push bar: Check that the push handles/pushbar are stable when
adjusting the height, that the push handles are firmly secured by the knobs, that
the rubber on the handle is intact and that the handle feels sturdy. If not, you
need to reglue them. If they are defective, they should be replaced for safety
reasons. Also check that all tilt labels are readable; if they are not, replace them.
Armrest: Check that the functions work, remove and put back the armrest,
adjust the height and depth of the armrest plate. If the armrest cover is torn, we
recommend that it be replaced with a new one.
Legrest: Check that the functions work, remove and put back the legrest, adjust
the height of the footplate, adjust the height and depth of the calf support, and
check the angle settings of the footplate. If the calf plate is broken, we recom-
mend that it be replaced.
Anti-tip device: Check that the anti-tip device is easy to raise and lower, and
that the screws holding the anti-tip device in place are flexible and can lock.
Rear wheels: Check that the rear wheels' screws are tight. Check that the chair
brakes; if not, the wire can be adjusted in two places – near the handle at the top
or close to the wheel hub at the bottom. Also check that the wire cover has not
split; if it has, it needs to be replaced. Tighten the wire until the brake is function-
ing effectively. If the rear wheels are pneumatic, check their pressure and pump
them. The correct air pressure is stated on the tyres. If they are solid, check for
cracks and see whether they need to be replaced.
