Accumulator Selection
Selecting the proper size is of primary importance. Only one factor need be considered in order to
assure the correct accumulator for a particular system -- the total refrigerant charge in that system.
It is not necessary to know the holding capacity of the accumulator or system variants such as
evaporator temperature and capacity in tons of refrigeration. These factors were considered in the
design and testing of the accumulator.
On older systems, if the system refrigerant charge is not known, consider the "rule of thumb" pro-
vided in Table 6-1 when selecting the correct size of suction accumulator:
