Setting Up
3 Plug one end of the telephone cable into the line out jack on
the modem and the other end into the wall jack.
Make sure you turn the modem's power on before you attempt to
use it.

Setting Up the Modem

Before you can use your modem, you must tell Windows 95 the
model number of your modem, who manufactured it and the
COM port to which it is connected. If you don't know which
COM port your modem is using, follow the steps in "Determining
the COM Port" on page 147 before continuing.
To set up your modem, follow these steps:
1 Click the Start button and point to Settings.
2 Click Control Panel.
Windows 95 displays the Control Panel.
3 Double-click the Add New Hardware icon.
Windows 95 opens the Add New Hardware Wizard.
4 Click Next.
The Add New Hardware Wizard asks if it should detect the
new hardware for you.
5 Select No, then click Next.
The Add New Hardware Wizard displays a menu of different
hardware types.
6 Select Modem, then click Next.
The Add New Hardware Wizard asks if it should detect the
modem for you.
7 Click Next. If it finds a modem, go to step 11.
8 Click Next.
The Install New Modem window displays a list of manufactur-
ers and their respective model numbers.
