    I . I N T R O D U C T I O N SAFETY WELCOME to Quantum Rehab, a division of Pride Mobility Products (Pride). The power chair you have pur- chased combines state-of-the-art components with safety, comfort, and styling in mind. We are confident that these design features will provide you with the conveniences you expect during your daily activities.
  • Page 5 I I . S A F E T Y PRODUCT SAFETY SYMBOLS The symbols below are used on the power chair to identify warnings, mandatory actions, and prohibited actions. It is very important for you to read and understand them completely. Read and follow the information in the owner’s manual.
  • Page 6 I I . S A F E T Y Do not connect an extension cord to the AC/DC converter or the battery charger. Removal of grounding prong can create electrical hazard. If necessary, properly install an approved 3-pronged adapter to an electrical outlet having 2-pronged plug access.
  • Page 7 I I . S A F E T Y Explosive conditions exist! Use only AGM or Gel-Cell batteries to reduce the risk of leakage or explosive conditions. Keep tools and other metal objects away from battery terminals. Contact with tools can cause electrical shock.

    I I . S A F E T Y GENERAL GUIDELINES MANDATORY! Do not operate your new power chair for the first time without completely reading and understanding this owner’s manual. Your power chair is a state-of-the-art life-enhancement device designed to increase mobility. Pride provides an extensive variety of products to best fit the individual needs of the power chair user.

    I I . S A F E T Y Weight Limitations Your power chair is rated for a maximum weight capacity. Please refer to the specifications table for this limit. Keep in mind that the maximum weight capacity includes the combined weight of the user and any accessories mounted to the power chair.
  • Page 12 I I . S A F E T Y WARNING! If your power chair is equipped with a reclining seatback, do not attempt to negotiate inclines with the seat in a reclined position. Do not attempt to negotiate obstacles with the seat in a reclined position unless an attendant is present to help stabilize the chair.
  • Page 13 I I . S A F E T Y Public Streets and Roadways WARNING! You should not operate your power chair on public streets and roadways. Be aware that it may be difficult for traffic to see you when you are seated on your power chair. Obey all local pedestrian traffic rules.

Always use an elevator. WARNING! Never use your power chair to negotiate steps or escalators. Doors Determine if the door opens toward or away from you.

    I I . S A F E T Y Motor Vehicle Transport Pride recommends that you do not remain seated in your power chair while traveling in a motor vehicle. The power chair should be stowed in the trunk of a car or in the back of a truck or van with batteries removed and properly secured.
  • Page 16 I I . S A F E T Y Reaching and Bending Never reach, lean, or bend while driving your power chair. If it is absolutely necessary to reach, lean, or bend while seated on your power chair, it is important to maintain a stable center of gravity and keep the power chair from tipping.
  • Page 17 I I . S A F E T Y Prescription Drugs/Physical Limitations Users must exercise care and common sense when operating a power chair. This includes awareness of safety issues when taking prescribed or over-the-counter drugs or when the user has specific physical limitations. WARNING! Consult your physician if you are taking prescribed or over-the-counter medication or if you have certain physical limitations.

    I I I . Y O U R P O W E R C H A I R THE QUANTUM JAZZY 1650 SERIES POWER CHAIR Your power chair has two main assemblies: the seat and the power base. See figures 5 and 6. Typically, the seat assembly includes the armrests, seatback, and seat base.

  • Page 21 I I I . Y O U R P O W E R C H A I R Manual Freewheel Levers Your power chair has a manual freewheel lever located on each motor. Manual freewheel levers enable you to disengage the drive motors from the gearboxes and maneuver the chair manually. WARNING! Do not use the power chair while the drive motors are disengaged! Do not disengage the drive motors when the power chair is on an incline, as the unit could roll on its own! Only engage the freewheel mode when on a level surface.
  • Page 22 I V . A S S E M B L Y INITIAL ASSEMBLY Your power chair may require some assembly either before initial use or after transportation. It may also require disassembly to make some comfort adjustments. Figure 9 details those parts of the power chair that are designed to be disassembled and assembled by an end user or by a qualified caregiver before using the product or making comfort adjustments.
  • Page 23 I V . A S S E M B L Y Seat Installation The Quantum Jazzy 1650 seat has four (4) seat towers that connect to the seat receivers on the power base frame. The seat towers have holes that enable you to adjust the seat height. Safety snap pins are inserted through the receiver and through the seat towers to secure the seat.

    Your Quantum Rehab Provider has evaluated your power chair and made any necessary adjustments to suit your specific requirements. Do not change your seating configuration without first contacting Pride Mobility Products or your Quantum Rehab Provider.

    V . C O M F O R T A D J U S T M E N T S Heavy Duty Drop-in Armrests The heavy duty drop-in armrests are attached to the chair with an armrest locking mechanism that is fas- tened to the side rails of the seat.

    V I . B A T T E R I E S A N D C H A R G I N G BATTERIES AND CHARGING The Quantum Jazzy 1650 uses two or four long-lasting, 12-volt, deep-cycle batteries. These batteries are sealed and maintenance free.

    V I I . C A R E A N D M A I N T E N A N C E CARE AND MAINTENANCE Your Quantum Jazzy 1650 is a sophisticated power chair. Like any motorized vehicle, it requires routine mainte- nance checks.
  • Page 34 V I I . C A R E A N D M A I N T E N A N C E All wheel bearings are prelubricated and sealed. They require no subsequent lubrication. The body shroud has been sprayed with a clear sealant coating. You can apply a light coat of car wax to help it retain its high-gloss appearance.
