Driving and Operating
Parking (Manual

Transmission)

If the vehicle has a manual
transmission, before you get out of
the vehicle, move the shift lever into
R (Reverse), and firmly apply the
parking brake. Once the shift lever
has been placed into R (Reverse)
with the clutch pedal pressed in,
turn the ignition key to LOCK/OFF,
remove the key and release the
clutch.
If you are parking on a hill, or if the
vehicle is pulling a trailer, see
Driving Characteristics and Towing
Tips on page 9-72.

Parking over Things

That Burn

Warning
Things that can burn could touch
hot exhaust parts under the
vehicle and ignite. Do not park
over papers, leaves, dry grass,
or other things that can burn.

Active Fuel Management

Vehicles with a V8 or V6 gasoline
engine may have Active Fuel
Management. This system allows
the engine to operate on either all of
its cylinders, or in V4 mode,
depending on the driving conditions.
When less power is required, such
as cruising at a constant vehicle
speed, the system will operate in
the V4 mode, allowing the vehicle to
achieve better fuel economy. When
greater power demands are
required, such as accelerating from
a stop, passing, or merging onto a
freeway, the system will maintain
full-cylinder operation.
If the vehicle has an Active Fuel
Management indicator, see Driver
®
Information Center (DIC) (Base
Level) on page 5-30 or Driver
Information Center (DIC) (Uplevel)
on page 5-32 for more information
on using this display.
