5. GENERATOR USE
l
To
prevent
electrical
shock
from
faulty
appliances,
make
sure
all
appliances
are in good working
order before
connecting
them
to the
generator.
l
Connections
for standby
power to a building's
electrical
system
must
be made by a qualified
electrician
and must comply
with all applicable
laws
and electrical
codes.
Improper
connections
can allow
electrical
current
from
the
generator
to backfeed
into the
utility
lines.
Such
backfeed
may electrocute
utility
company
workers
or others
who
contact
the lines during
a power
outage,
and when
utility
power
is
restored,
the
generator
may
explode,
burn,
or cause
fires
in the
building's
electrical
system.
GROUND TERMINAL
l
Limit operation
requiring never exceed the maximum
power.
Maximum
power is:
6.5
kVA
For continuous
operation,
do not exceed the rated power of:
5.5 kVA for more than 30 minutes.
In either
case, the total wattage
of all appliances
connected
must be
considered.
l
Most
motorized
appliance
require
more than their
rated wattage
for
startup.
l
Do not exceed the current
limit specified for any out put.
NOTE:
You can determine
an appliance's
VA (volt amp) rating by multiplying
its
required voltage by the amount of current (amps) it draws.
