Glossary
application server—The server that provides remote access functionality for the SiteProtector Console.
authentication level—The level of authentication to use to communicate with SiteProtector.

background scan—A scan that runs periodically in an automated process of cyclically scanning assets as part of
your protection management strategy.
bootloader—A program that loads enough other software for the operating system to start.

Common Response Module (CRM)—Common Response Module
criticality—A user-assigned setting that indicates the relative importance of an asset to other assets, especially for
assets in the same group.

date and time—The current month, day, year, hours, and minutes for the appliance.
Discovery policy—A policy that defines parameters necessary to perform discovery on a portion of a network.
discovery scan—A form of scanning that detects active IP addresses and attempts to determine the type of device
associated with each IP address.
distributed scanning—An approach to scanning your network that coordinates the scanning activities of multiple
remote and/or local scanning agents at different locations across the network.
DNS search path—A space-delimited list of domain names that make up the DNS search path.

access to security data for troubleshooting.
