certain BIOS configuration utility fields might not be editable by all users. See
"Passwords" on page 52 for additional information.
v Main
Select this choice to perform the following tasks:
– View and set the system date.
– View and set the system time in 24-hour format (hour:minute:second).
– Configure hard disk drive support.
– View information about the system. When you make changes through other
choices in the BIOS configuration utility program, some of those changes are
reflected in the system information; you cannot change settings directly in the
system information. Information includes the model of the system-board tray,
the revision level or issue date of the BIOS code that is stored in electrically
erasable programmable ROM (EEPROM), and the type, speed, and cache
sizes of the microprocessors and the amount of installed memory.
v Advanced
Important: The server might malfunction if these settings are incorrectly
configured. Follow the instructions on the screen carefully.
Select this choice to perform the following tasks:
– Configure advanced microprocessor features, such as virtualization and
thermal management
– Configure memory features, such as interleaving
– Configure PCI and USB devices and I/O ports
– Configure system-board tray power-on features
v Server
Select this choice to set options for console redirection, event logging, and IPMI
communications.
You can view the system-event log that contains all the system-error, warning,
and informational messages that have been generated. To get more information
about error codes that occur, run the diagnostics program. For instructions, see
the Problem Determination and Service Guide. To clear the event log, select
Clear all DMI event logs.
In the IPMI section, you can view the BMC system event log, which contains
system error and warning messages that were generated by the BMC controller.
The IP address of the BMC is set in the IP Address field. You can then use this
IP address for remote management of the BMC using IBM Director or an IPMI
2.0 compliant management tool.
v Security
Select this choice to set passwords and other security options. The server
supports two password levels:
– User Password
Select this choice to set or change a user password. For more information,
see "User password" on page 52.
– Supervisor Password
Select this choice to set or change a supervisor password. A supervisor
password is intended to be used by a system administrator; it limits access to
some BIOS configuration utility fields. If a supervisor password is set, all BIOS
configuration utility fields that can be modified are available for edit only if you
type the supervisor password at the password prompt. For more information,
see "Supervisor password" on page 52.
For more information about passwords, see "Passwords" on page 52.
