Do not operate a Myrinet interconnect for extended periods with missing
line cards. Use blank panels to fill in any empty line card slots. The
front of the enclosure needs to be closed both for the efficiency of the fan
cooling and to avoid electromagnetic interference (EMI).

5.3 Replacing a fan tray

The fan tray is hot swappable and monitored via the line monitor card. You can
identify it by its large handle, located on the right side of the Myrinet system
interconnect (Figure 5-5). Remove it by loosening the two locking screws and
pulling on the handle.

When a fan tray is hot swapped, it must be replaced within two minutes.
Otherwise, the line cards might power themselves off in response to
an over-temperature condition. Each line card has thermal sensors to
detect over-temperature conditions.
The fan tray actually holds eight small fans (Figure 5-6).
