Coolant temperature gauge

Blue
The engine is still cold. Drive at
m oderate engine and vehicle speeds.
Red
When you sw itch on the ignition, the
w arning lam p com es on briefly to
confirm that the system is operational.
If the w arning lamp comes on w hile
driving or the message "COOLANT
TEM PERATURE" appears in the Check
*
Control
: the engine is overheated.
Shut off the engine immediately and
allow it to cool dow n.
Betw een the blue and red zones
Normal operating range. It is not
unusual for the needle to rise as far as
the edge of the red zone in response to
high outside temperatures or severe
operating conditions.
Checking coolant level: refer to
page 160.

Service Interval Display

The range of available displays varies
according to your individual vehicle's
equipm ent.
Green lamps
The num ber of illum inated lam ps
decreases as the tim e for your next
m aintenance visit approaches.
Yellow lamp
This field appears together w ith
OILSERVICE or INSPECTION.
M aintenance is due. Please contact
your BM W center for an appointm ent.
Red lamp
The m aintenance deadline has been
passed.
