Configuring the ADSL Transport Protocols RFC1483 Bridged Mode To set the SMC70032AE to RFC1483 bridge mode, your ISP must provide you with values for both the VPI (Virtual Path Identifier) and the VCI (Virtual Channel Identifier). By default these are set to 0 (VPI) and 35 (VCI). The value of the VPI setting ranges from 0 to 4095, and the value of the VCI setting ranges from 1 to 65535.

  • Page 25: Pppoe Routed Mode (Rfc2516)

PPPoE Routed Mode (RFC2516) PPPoE (Point-to-Point Protocol over Ethernet) requires a client software program to be installed on your PC and can therefore limit the number of PCs connected to the Internet. To avoid the necessity of installing a PPPoE client on your computer and to allow more PCs to connect at once, the SMC70032AE has a PPPoE client program installed.
