When you watch a programthat is beingbroadcastwith closed
captions, y ou canaccesson-screen boxescontaining the pro-
gram'sdialogue (for example,what a characteris saying), dialogue
in a foreign language,or information(suchas a channelguide,
schedule, o r announcements).Followthe stepsbelow to select
closedcaptions.
Not all"IV programsand commercials are broadcast with closed
captions. S imilarly, a ll types of closedcaptions(secondlanguage,
half-screen text, etc.) are not alwaysbroadcast, i f closedcaption-
ingis not broadcast.youcannot receive itThis does not indicate
a problemwith the TV/VCR. Refer to your area'sTV programlist-
ingsfor the shows offered with closedcaptions.

Press the pLAYIA button or the STOPIY button to select
CAPTION.

Press the REW(ind)l_l button or the F,FWDII_ button to
select your desired mode.
The selectedclosedcaption mode will appear besideCAPTION
on-screen,
• CAPTION I displays standard closedcaptions(what a character
is saying).
• CAPTION2 displays foreign language closed captions(foreign
languagewords showing what a character is saying).
• TEXTI and TEXT2 display haft-screen text (suchas a channel
guide, schedule,or announcement).
• OFF turns closed captions off, Captions will not appear on-
screen.
