Turning the data connection on or off
Turning your data connection off saves battery life and money on data charges.
Before turning on WiMAX, you must first get the WiMAX service from your service
provider.
1. Slide the Notifications panel open, and then tap
2. Do either of the following:
§ Tap the Mobile data On/Off switch to turn the data connection on and off.
§ Tap the WiMAX On/Off switch to turn the WiMAX function on and off.
Follow the onscreen instructions to log in.
If you don't have the data connection turned on and you're also not connected to a
Wi‑Fi network, you won't receive automatic updates to your email, social network
accounts, and other synchronized information.

Changing the network your phone connects to

If you're using a dual-mode card, you can set HTC J to connect to just one type of
network. This prevents HTC J from constantly searching for other networks to
connect to, and saves battery power.
1. Slide the Notifications panel open, and then tap
2. Tap Mobile data > Preferred Network, and then select CDMA Mode or GSM /
UMTS Mode.
3. If you selected GSM / UMTS Mode, you can choose to connect to:
GSM / UMTS
Dual
GSM only
UMTS only
HTC J searches for both 2G and 3G networks, and connects to
the one that's available.
HTC J connects only to a 2G (GPRS or EDGE) network. Using a
slower data connection helps to save battery power, but it may
incur extra data fees.
HTC J connects only to a 3G network.
