Starting
Engine
WARNING:Besure no one otherthan

the operatoris standingnear the lawn
mower whilestartingengine or operat-
ingmower.Neverrun engineindoors
or in enclosed,poorly ventilatedareas.
Engine exhaustcontainscarbon monox-
ide,an odorlessand deadly gas. Keep
hands, feet, hair and loose clothing
away from any moving parts on engine
and lawnmower.

surized starting fluid. Vapors are
flammable.
Be sure lawnis clearof stones,sticks,wire, or other
objectswhichcoulddamagelawnmoweror engine.
Suchobjectscouldbe accidentlythrownbythe mower
in any directionand causeseriouspersonalinjuryto the
operatorand others.
1. Pullout the chokeknob locatedon the left sideof the
upper handle.See Figure2.
NOTE: Useof the chokemay be necessaryifthe engine
is warmor theair temperatureishigh.
2. Standingbehindthe mower,depressthe bladecontrol
and hold itagainstthe upperhandle.
3. Pullthe startergrip lightly untilresistanceisfelt,
then pull rapidlyto overcomecompression,prevent
kickbackand startengine.Repeatif necessary.See
Figure2.
IMPORTANT:Donot allowthe startergrip to snap
back againstthe rope guide.Returnitgentlyto prevent
damageto the starter.
4. Whenenginewarmsup,push inthe chokeknob. See
Figure2.

1. Releasebladecontrol to stop theengineand blade.

ARNING: Never operate your mower
without eitherthe rear door or the entire
grass catcher assembly firmly secured.
WARNING:if you strike a foreign
object,stop the engine.Remove
spark plug boot from the spark plug,
thoroughly inspectmower for any
damage, and repair damage before
restartingand operating.Extensive
vibration of mower during operation
is an indicationof damage. The unit
should be promptly inspectedand
repaired.
1. Oncethe engineis running,squeezethedrive
controlagainstthe upperhandleto propelmower.
2. Forbest results,do notcut wet grass.
3. Fora healthierlawn, nevercut off morethan one-
thirdof the total lengthof the grass.
Using as Mulcher
Formulchinggrass,removethe grasscatcher(if
apllicable)and installmulchingbafflefollowinginstruc-
tions on page 7.
1. Foreffectivemulching,do notcut wet grass.
2. Newor thick grassmay requirea narrowercut.
Adjustgroundspeedaccordingto conditionof lawn.
3. If thegrass has beenallowedto growinexcessof
4 inches, m ulchingis not recommended. U sethe
grasscatcherto bag clippingsinstead.
