Safe Operation Practices for Walk-Behind
Mowers.
Thiscuttingmachineis capableofamputatinghandsandfeet endthrowingobjects.Failureto ob-
san/e the followingsafety instructions couldresultin sedousinjuryor death.
I. General Operation
1. Read, understand, and follow all Instruc-
ifons an the machine and In the manual(s).
Bethoroughly familiarwiththe controlsand
the properuseof the mowerbeforestealing.
2. Donotputhandsor rantneoror underrofat-
ingparts.Keepdeer of the dischargeopen-
ing at alltimes.

Only allow respor_alble individuals, who ere
familiar with the Instructions, to operate the
mower.
4. Thorougldyinspect the mower end area
where the equipmentis to be used. Clear
the area of objects suches rouks,toys,wire,
bones,sticks etc., whichcouldbe pickedup
andthrown by the bisde.

Be sure the area Is deer of other people be-
fore mowing. Stop mower if anyone enters
the area.
6. Do notaperate the mower whan berefoot or
wearingopen sandals. Always wear sub-
stantialfoot wear.
7. Donotpullmowarbankwardsunlessaban-
lutelynesessery.Lookdownand behindbe-
fore andwhile movingbackwards.

Do not operate the mower without proper
guards, plates, grass catcher or other cefety
protective devices In place.
9. See manufacturer's Inslzuctlons for proper
operationand installationof accessories.
Only use accessories approved by the
manufacturer.
10. Stop the blade(s) when crossing gravel
drives,walks, or roads.
11. Stop the engine (motor) whenever you
leave the equipment,before cleaningthe
moweror unclogging the chute.
12. Shutthe angina (motor)offandwalt unltlthe
blade comesto complete atop before re-
movinggrasscatcher.
13. Mowonlyin daylightor goodartificial light.
14. Do not operate the mower while under the
influence of alcohol, drugs or other medica-

16. Disengagethe salf-prepalled mechanism
ordrive clutchon mowers so equipped be-
fore steitingthe engine (motor).
17. If the equipment shouldstartto vibratoab-
normally, s topthe engine(motor) e ndcheck
immediately forthe cause.Vibrationisgen-
erally e.warningof troublesuchas a blade
that is damaged, e loose blade, or the en-
gine mountingboltsare loose.
18. Always wear setaty goggles or safety
glsssss with side shieldswhen oporaltng
mower to protectyoureyes fromforeign ob-
jestswhich can bethrownfrom the unit.
19. Plan your mowing patfam to ovoid dis-
charge ofmaterialtowardroads,sidewalks,
bystanders end the like.
20. Afteratdldng a foreignobject,atop the en-
gine.Removethe wire from the sparkplug.
Inspectthe blade and mowerfordernage,if
deJ'naged, repairbeforestartingendoperat-

21. Keep any wsshoutportsand othermower
housing service openings closed when
mowing.
II. Slope Operation
Slopesere a majorfactorrelatedto slipendfall
accidentswhich can resultin eavere Injury.All
slopesrequireextracaution.If youfeeluneasy
on a elope, do notmow it.
DO:
Mew across the face of slopes; never up
and down. Do not mow excessivelysteep
slopes (ma_imu_n15 degrees) or areas
where the groundis very rough. See the
"Guide"in the back of this manualto check
e slope. Exemise extreme ceultan when
changingdirectionon slopes.
Remove objectssuch as rocks,tree limb6,
etc.
Watch for holes, ruts, or bumps. Tall grass
can hide obstacles.
