Adjusting the differential feed
The differential feed prevents interply shift. It consists of two feed dogs, arranged one
behind the other, which simultaneously take hold of the workpiece and move it.
The feed amount of either feed dog can be set separately. It is possible to have the
workpiece moved more by the front feed dog than by the rear one, and vice versa. Due
to this, very good sewing results are achieved. Set the differential feed according to the
material you wish to sew (see table on page 32).
The following settings are possible using button 16:
Setting 0.5
=
Short stroke of front feed dog, long stroke of rear feed dog
Setting
=
Same stroke of both feed dogs
Setting 1.5
=
Long stroke of front feed dog, short stroke of ear feed dog
to 2
The differential feed is infinitely variable from 0.5 to 2, also during sewing.
Note:
The following variants can be employed to obtain fashionable effects on garments:
The gather effect is obtained at a differential feed setting of 1.5
2 when light
fabrics are sewn.
The waved effect is obtained at a differential feed setting of 0.5 when medium to
heavy elastic fabrics are sewn.
