2. Check that holes "A" in governor control
lever and hole in governor plate line-up.
If holes "A" are not aligced, loosen clamp
screw and move throttle cable until holes
are aligned. T_ghten clamp screw
sscurely.

TO ADJUST CARBURETOR
NOTE: The carburetor on this engineis low
emission. It is equippedwith an idle fuel
adjusting needle with a limifer cap, which
allows some adjustment within the limits
allowed by the cap. Do not attemptto remove
the limiter cap. "me limitercap cannot be
removed without breaking the adjusting
needle.
The carburetor has been preset at the factory
and edjus'_ment s hould not be necessary.
However, minor a_ustment may be required
to compensatefor differences in fuel,
temperature,eltRudeor load. If the carburetor
does need adjustment, proceed as follows:
In general, tuming idle mixture valve in
(clockwise) decreases the supply of fuel to
the enginegiving a leaner fuel/air mixture.
Turning the idle mixture valve out (counter-
clockwise) increasesthe supply of fuel to the
engine giving a richer fuel/air mixture.
IMPORTANT: Damage to the needle valve
and the seat in carburetor may result ifscrew
is tomed in too tight.
PRELIMINARYSETTING -
1. Air cleaner essembly must be assembled
to the carburetor when making carburetor
a_nstrnents.
2. Be sure the throttle control cable is
adjusted properly (see above).
FINALSETTING -
1. Start engine and allowto warm for five
minutes. Make finala_ustments with
engine running and shifl/roctJoncontrol
lever in neutral (N) pesition.
2. Movethretleonntrd leverto slow
pesi_on.W_ finger, rotate end hold
throttle lever against idle speed screw.
Turn _ speed screw to attain 1750
RPM.
3. While still holding throttle lever against
idle speed screw, tom idle mixture valve
full travel deskwisethen counterdeck-
wise un'dlengine runs rough. "rum valve
to a point m_dwaybetween those two
pnsi_ons. Releasethrottle lever.
ACCELERATIONTEST -
4. Move throtlte contrel lever from slow to
fast position. If engine hesitates or dies,
tum idle mixture valve out (caunterdock-
wise) fi8tum. Repeattest and conlnue
to adjust, if necessary, until engine
accelerates smoothly.
High speed stop is factory adjusted. Do not
ac_ust- damage may result.
IMPORTANT: Never tamper withthe engine
governor, which is factoryset for proper
engine speed. Overspeeding the engine
above the factoryhighspeed setting can be
dangerous,ff you think _ engine_ovemed
high speed needs a_usting, contact a
Sears or other qualified service center,
which has proper equipment and experience
to make any necessary adjustments.
